Odd Rotation

Mirror Rotation Test

Tap the MIRRORED one — the rest are only rotated

About this test

Odd Rotation is a mental-rotation and mirror-discrimination task. Several copies of the same shape appear at different rotations — but one is a mirror image, not just a turned version. Finding it requires mentally rotating each shape to check its handedness, the core skill measured by classic mental-rotation research (Shepard & Metzler).

Cognitive domain: Spatial Reasoning

How it works

A grid of the same letter-like glyph appears, each turned to a random angle. All but one are pure rotations; a single tile is flipped (a mirror image). Tap the mirrored one. A new set appears each time — find the odd one out as fast as you can for 45 seconds.

Reading your score

Your score is how many mirrored shapes you correctly spot in 45 seconds. On the MindSprint scale, around 22 is top-tier. It rewards fast, accurate mental rotation — mentally turning each shape upright to check whether it is flipped.

Tips to improve
FAQ
What is mirror discrimination?
Telling a rotated shape from its mirror image — a core part of mental rotation ability.
How is it different from Spatial Twist?
This is a fast 2D multiple-choice "find the flip"; Spatial Twist compares two 3D figures you can rotate.
Is it research-based?
Yes — it draws on the classic Shepard & Metzler mental-rotation paradigm.
